Richard Ball was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in February 1962, and after two years of service in the Army, he began practicing with Ball, Ball, Matthews & Novak.

Richard spent the greater part of his practice in the litigation of insurance, probate, business, tax, and regulatory issues. He currently limits his practice to business matters, including entity formation and governance, litigation consulting, real estate, insurance regulatory matters, and business transactions.

After receiving his B.A. and L.L.B. degrees from the University of Alabama in 1962, Richard attended the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General School at the University of Virginia and the Basic Infantry Officers Orientation Course at Ft. Benning, Georgia and was then assigned to Headquarters U.S. Army Europe in Heidleburg, Germany. He was discharged honorably as a Captain.

While retired from litigation practice, he remains admitted to practice in all federal and state courts in Alabama, the U.S. Tax Court, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits. He is a member of the Montgomery County and Alabama State Bar Associations and is a former member of the International Association of Defense Counsel.

Richard has served on the boards of the Montgomery County Bar Association, Montgomery Chamber of Commerce, Montgomery Country Club, Lion’s Club, Alaga Whitfield Foods, Pioneers of Montgomery (President), Montgomery Chapter of the American Red Cross, and the Montgomery Ballet. He is a member of Alpha Tau Omega and Phi Delta Phi fraternities.

Richard is married to the former Priscilla Tyler Crommelin and is a lifelong member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. As the 1956 Alabama High School Golf champion and a former member of the University of Alabama golf team, he has not lost his passion for golf.
